Your child’s healthcare is our specialty.
Pediatricians receive special training in the health and illnesses of infants, children, teens, and young adults. We provide preventive health care for children in good health, medical care for children with chronic conditions such as ADHD or asthma, newborn care, developmental screenings, and much more. We also provide parents with support and advice with issues such as growth and development, safety and prevention, nutrition, and emotional wellness to foster a lifetime of good health.
Well Child Visits
Well child visits are a vital part of your child’s health care, and they typically follow this schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
During a check-up, we evaluate growth, development, vision, speech and hearing. These visits also provide an opportunity to discuss child safety, nutrition, accident prevention and anticipated changes in behavior and development. During some visits your child will receive immunizations and screening tests of blood and urine.
We encourage parents to keep a list of questions they may have and bring the list to the visit.
Same-Day Sick Visits
We understand that children can become ill quickly and unexpectedly, which is why we reserve a portion of our daily schedule for sick children. To schedule a sick visit, please call us early in the day and ask to speak with a nurse. This will help us to see your child during office hours and before pharmacies close.
There are typically 4 to 5 doctors in the office on weekdays. Every attempt will be made for you to see the doctor of your choice. Saturday office hours are shared by the physicians in the group on a rotating basis.
Don’t hesitate to call our office whenever you feel uncomfortable or worried about your child’s medical condition. In addition, the Symptom Checker at HealthyChildren.org can help you determine whether your child should see a doctor.
Sports and Camp Physicals
Many school sports and summer camps require an annual physical exam to participate. Please schedule these appointments well in advance. If a school, sports, or camp form needs to be completed, you may upload and send your form request through the My Kid’s Chart patient portal.
Caring for your newborn is our privilege.
Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in your life. Nothing is more rewarding than the privilege of caring for this new life and providing an environment in which both you and your child will thrive and develop. At Piedmont Pediatrics, we share your joy and enthusiasm, and look forward to the opportunity to partner with you on the exciting journey of raising a child.
Getting Acquainted
Please feel free to call our office if you have questions about our practice. We’d be happy to schedule a phone consultation with one of our pediatricians.
Delivering at Piedmont Hospital?
We are the only private practice that will see you and your baby every day you are in Piedmont Hospital until discharge, and then will ensure you have an easy follow-up in office after you return home.
When you go to the hospital to deliver, simply tell your obstetrician and the hospital staff that you have chosen Piedmont Pediatrics as your child’s pediatrician. As soon as your baby is born, Piedmont’s nursery will contact us to let us know your newborn has arrived. The pediatrician will meet you in the nursery and continue to provide care to your newborn all the way up to the day of discharge.
When the pediatrician discharges you from the hospital, he or she will provide specific instructions on when to schedule your first visit to the office.
Lactation Consulting Services
We are pleased to be able to offer Lactation Consulting Services to our patients who have recently welcomed newborns into their families. These services will be provided by Lynne Dolan, CPNP, a Certified Lactation Specialist, who is the newest member to the Piedmont Pediatrics team.
Request a lactation consulting appointment through our patient portal.
Lactation counseling can help with a variety of concerns, including:
- Newborn latch
- Infant feeding positions
- Management of Mom’s milk supply
- Breastfeeding schedule
- Pump education
- Breastfeeding gadgets
- Nutrition while breastfeeding
- Breast surgery and medications that could affect milk supply
- Breastfeeding the older infant when starting solids
Insurance
When adding a newborn to your insurance plan, please check with your Human Resources department or your insurance broker about the requirements of your health plan. Most plans require that newborns be added to the policy within 30 days of birth.

Adolescent Care
Adolescence is an important transition from childhood to adulthood. During these years, patients will be offered and encouraged to have a portion of the visit alone with their provider. We try to pay special attention to the personal needs, confidentiality and privacy of our adolescent patients. During these visits, we will discuss issues such as alcohol, smoking, substance use and sexual activity. Patients may schedule appointments through their late teens and college years.
After age 18, patients are legally considered adults and need to give their written permission for us to speak with their parents.
We know that adolescence can be a challenging period. As a young adult moves towards independence, problems may develop between a child and his or her parents. If you have concerns about family relationships, please feel free to discuss them with us.

How Does Allergy Testing Work?
Understanding the different available allergy tests can be overwhelming for parents. In our office we perform the “prick method” skin test. This tests for allergic antibodies and is usually performed on the back (but may also be performed on the arms).
The skin is pricked with a needle where a drop of allergen has already been placed and noting the development of a positive reaction (which includes a wheal, swelling, or flare in the surrounding area of redness). The results are read 15 to 20 minutes after the application of the allergen.
Your child will typically be tested for allergens related to trees, weeds, grasses, molds, animal danders, and dust mites.
